Faint Colonial Soldier Appears in Night Photo at Gettysburg Battlefield

While visiting Gettysburg National Military Park, I decided to stop by the battlefield after dark to experience the atmosphere of the area at night. It was a quiet evening with very little wind, and only a few other cars were in the parking areas nearby. I walked out toward one of the open fields near Spangler’s Spring and stood there for a few minutes just listening. The whole area was incredibly still. After a few minutes, I thought I heard something in the distance out in the field. It sounded almost like footsteps moving through the grass or brush, but it was faint and difficult to place. Since it was dark and the field was mostly lit only by moonlight, I couldn’t actually see anything moving. I took out my iPhone and snapped a few photos of the field just to see if anything unusual might show up. At the time I didn’t notice anything strange while I was standing there. Later that night, when I looked through the photos, one of the images caught my attention. In the middle distance of the field there appears to be a faint human-shaped figure. The shape looks like a person walking across the field from right to left. The figure is extremely dim and almost blends into the fog, but the outline is still visible enough that it stood out compared to the surrounding mist. What makes it strange is that the shape looks like it may be wearing older style clothing, possibly resembling a colonial-era soldier with what looks like a tricorn-style hat. No one else was visible in the field at the time, and I didn’t see anyone walking there when the photo was taken. I’m not claiming this is definitely a ghost, but it was unsettling to discover after the fact. The figure wasn’t visible to my eyes when I took the photo, only later when reviewing the images. Given Gettysburg’s long and intense history, it definitely made me wonder what might still linger in those fields after dark.
